About Me...

My name is Anne Punkkinen. I was born, raised, educated and have worked in Sudbury, Ontario for my entire life.  I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from Laurentian University in 1993 and was then accepted into the first ever Ontario Midwifery Programme and obtained my Bachelor of Health Science in Midwifery (BHScM) degree in 1996. I worked as a Registered Midwife for 6 years and attended over 400 births. I have conducted 1000's of home visits during this time visiting new moms and their infants in their homes.

After leaving midwifery, I  worked as a Community Health Nurse for 10 years on a First Nation reserve close to Sudbury. My primary role was health promotion and prevention although I also developed many programs, did home visiting, conducted assessments for community members, diabetes education, immunizations, and communicable disease tracking. For the past 15 years, I have taught in various capacities for Cambrian College. Education is a great interest of mine!

In 2015 I graduated from the Nurse Practitioner- Primary Health Care certificate program through Laurentian University. I completed my Master of Nursing in August 2018. I am also a published writer now. A discussion paper of mine was published in the International Journal of Childbirth Education in April 2019. The article is called "Reviewing Postpartum Follow Up in Two Models of Care". It compares the care offered by physicians versus midwives in our town.  Finally, I recently received my Occupational Health Nursing certificate from Durham College in 2021.

I am one of very few Nurse Practitioners in Canada that also have their midwifery degree. Although I no longer practice in the capacity of a Registered Midwife, I have expert skills in maternal and newborn assessment and breastfeeding. I also have extensive knowledge in case management, home care, health promotion, and prevention. A holistic approach to health is important, as is taking control of your own health care.

My goal is to provide professional nurse practitioner services to individuals and families in the comfort of their own home. I do not discriminate and believe in informed choice.  Please call or text 705-805-3003 for more information or email me at anne.northernnpservices@gmail.com. I look forward to working with you!
